Picture of the week 12/06/10 Boxer

I had the opportunity to make it down to the DeMotte Boxing Club last week for a photo shoot. Coach Jimmy, who is the founder of the gym, was gracious enough to give me some of his time to work on my skills. The Coach has a big fight coming up this Friday and is looking lean and mean.

If you are here looking for the photo's from last nights Silver Gloves Fundraiser I will get them up as soon as all the photo releases are signed and on file at the DeMotte Boxing Club. I will not post photos of minors without parents permission. As my relationship with the Club continues I will be refining the process of making the photos available as smooth as possible. Thanks for all the kind words and thanks to Coach Jimmy, Renee, Chris Guzman and all the the others who helped out last night.  It was a great event and I look forward to seeing you all again. This address used to come here to the blog and now it goes right to the main gallery page. The blog is still surlycamera.blogspot.com My business cards have www.surlycamera.com on them and if folks have a business card they are looking for the images so that takes them there first. There is a link to the blog from there, of course. I hope this does not cause any confusion.

I took a trip down to the DeMotte Boxing Club Sat. to work on my boxing photo skills.

Boxing

I went to the DeMotte Boxing Club Friday night and took some photos of the fights. If you get a chance shoot on over to their blog and check it out. Like I said in an earlier post, I had planned on doing some environmental portraits but the time was just not there for that. Since my father is part owner I pretty much have the run of the place, photographically speaking. I hung out and shot all the fights and had a great time. I was sore as hell the next day from crouching down near the apron.

Not unlike the monster truck show boxing poses some challenges. At officially sanctioned events flash is strictly forbidden. This means cranking the ISO so the images get noisy. I am a little light on gear for my DSLR so I don't have the optimum lens for low light, fast action sports but I do what I can. I'm learning and my images are improving. Rock on.
